SARAB
The Palestinian Circus

We are forced,
we had no other option,
dragged to an uncertain end,
on a road full of obstacles and checkpoints that we
could barely pass.
Our destiny unknown,
during the long and rough journey,
we kept dreaming of the moment we would arrive,
continuing our path towards the unknown.
Finally,
we arrive.
Have we reached our goal?
After floating earth and oceans,
We discover the unexpected.
It really was nothing, but a mirage.
Finally,
we arrive.
Have we reached our goal?
After crossing lands and oceans,
we discover the unexpected.
It was nothing but a mirage.
“Sarab” – a mirage: the illusion of hope that vanishes upon arrival.
(An Arabic word symbolizing false promises and fleeting dreams.)
Tragic Theatre Circus highlights the struggles faced by refugees around the world. Through circus theatre, Palestinian performers reflect on their history and its ongoing repetition in the lives of millions today.
Since 2007, the Palestinian Circus has brought circus arts to young people across Palestine. Through value-based education, it nurtures strong creative identities and gives young people a voice to express their daily lives, their struggle for freedom, and their deep desire for a dignified life.
