The perspective through which we gaze and navigate shapes our emotions, decisions, and ultimately bends and creates the path we walk on. Our view of the world constantly reconstructs us, moment by moment. We are often conditioned into a certain perspective, which can mould and guide us but also restrict us. In today’s hyper-capitalist society, it turns us into ideal consumers.
To what extent can individuals influence a shift in perspective? How much power does society hold, and how much is determined by genetics? Can we connect perspective with contemporary scientific insights into the nature of the universe and gravity? According to quantum mechanics, reality is not objective or independent of us – rather, individuals influence the outcomes of experiments. Entanglement, interconnectedness, and mutual influence reach right down to the very strings that weave the web of the cosmos.
The contemporary circus performance subtly explores the possibility of shifting perspective through the creative use of aerial acrobatics.
Each performance is unique. The artist directly influences and alters the music through her movements, using a sensor attached to her body. She also partially creates the music by “playing” contact microphones attached to the structure in which the performance takes place. At the same time, the soundscape is shaped by everyone present, as well as ambient sounds from the environment, which – via sound filters and sensors programmed by Jurij Podgoršek – are sent back in a transformed sonic form by composer Tjaž Juvan.
The performance was awarded the Urbana Ljubljana Prize in 2024 for the best creation by Slovenian and Slovenia-based artists in the field of contemporary performative street arts.
