Etude for prepared piano and rope

Contemporary circus performance

by

Danijela Zajc (SLO)

Everything in this world is interconnected, influences each other, and co-exists with each other.  In her contemporary circus performance Etude for Prepared Piano and Rope (Etida za prepariran klavir in vrv), the author explores the interaction between the prepared piano and classical acrobatics on aerial rope. The movement is converted into rope undulation, which in turn is translated to sound waves of different frequencies and amplitudes, creating an interaction open to unpredictable situations. How do our bodies and emotions react to the environment and social reality? To what extent can we replicate or change the reality? Are we in constant pursuit of balance?

“The author came to the idea for this performance when working at Cirkusarna Naokrog, in the dilapidated Autonomous Factory Rog, where she found and disassembled an abandoned piano. Autonomous Factory Rog put a priceless stamp on the author as well as this piece. This performance is dedicated to the Factory.”
